Through the use of role models, and teaching women’s history, Nuturing Hearts works to educate young girls on the strength of the human spirit.
This program promotes the “If they can do it, I can do it” mentality. Mirror Reflections uses motivational speakers that inspire and encourage young women to aim higher in their personal achievements. This program provides them with a role model, who has survived similar situations and who can help them along the way.

Negative emotions are feelings that we have when someone upsets us, harms us or takes us for granted by disrespecting or abusing who we are or are trying to become. These negative emotions can also emerge when we fall short of our own plans or the expectations of others. While negative emotions may result from situations and people that we have no control over, one of the worst negative emotional reactions is the emotion of fear, because we are reacting negatively to something that may never even occur or exist.

Nurturing Hearts helps Erie girls stay on track

Dominique Kafando struggled to stay in school just 12 months ago. The Central Career and Technical School student had D's and F's on her report card, and had been assigned to Central's alternative-education school. "I was missing a lot of classes," said Kafando, 18. "I didn't care much about school." A teacher referred Kafando to Nurturing Hearts, a local nonprofit organization that provides leadership and life skills for teenage girls.
